APhA MRM Conference Policy Meeting

If you are considering going to the Midyear Regional Meeting in Phoenix, or you have already signed up, then stay tuned for the announcement of the policy meeting being held in the next few weeks. This meeting will detail how policies are made and the process of how policies are voted on and passed. Also, a brainstorming session of any issues we would like to raise during the conference will be conducted.

USC Legislative Day

Co-hosts, NCPA and APSA, are excited to announce this year’s annual Legislative Day. The legislators lined up to speak include:

STATE CONTROLLER John Chiang
He oversees the California state budget which is the eighth-largest economy in the world.

Assemblymember Anthony Portantino who represents the 44th Assembly district, which includes the cities of Altadena, Duarte, La Canada Flintridge, Pasadena, South Pasadena and Temple City, to name a few.

Assemblymember Mike Eng who represents the 49th Assembly District, which is located within eastern Los Angeles County and includes the cities of Alhambra, El Monte, Monterey Park, Rosemead, San Gabriel, San Marino, and South El Monte.

Also Speaking:

Dr. Eric Gupta, Pharm.D., BCPS, CLS, as well as CPhA President.

Dr. Steve Gray, Pharm.D., J.D., current President of AMCP and Director of Pharmacy Professional Affairs at Kaiser Permanente’s California Region.

Dr. Neeraj Sood, Ph.D., Associate Professor in Pharmaceutical Economics and Policy Program. His work has been quoted in the Wall Street Journal and the U.S. News & World Report, and he has appeared on C-Span.

Legislative Day is an event that brings students, pharmacists, professors and others together to hear from various guest speakers on topics concerning the legal and governmental aspects associated with pharmacy. This event is open to all health care professionals as it is important we all get involved in political advocacy and legislative affairs.

Date: October 8th, 2010 Time: 7:30 to 11:00 AM (8:00 to 9:20 AM is the slot designated for speakers)

Location: Radisson at USC Ballroom 3540 Figueroa Street Los Angeles, CA 90007

Breakfast will be provided and APSA/NCPA credit will be given to members who attend.

How do I join?

Registration steps:

1) complete the electronic APSA application (link above)

2) complete the paper ASHP/CHSP application

3) complete the paper APhA/CPhA application

4) submit your check for membership payment made out to ”APSA” or “American Pharmacy Student Alliance”

**** You can submit your check and complete your paper applications during any of our tabling sessions every day through Sept 17, 12 – 1pm ****

FAQs

Q: On the APhA form: for Member ID and Membership Year, what should we write in those boxes?

A: For all NEW members, leave the “Member ID” blank and write “2010 – 2011″ in the “Membership Year”

A: For all RENEWING members, your pre-printed forms already have this section already filled out. But if you need to find your APhA member ID number it can be found at pharmacist.com using the email address that you originally registered with.

Q: I am a renewing APhA member, what do I do for my application?

A: For RENEWING members, your application has been pre-printed by APhA. All you need to do is check the box for “CURRENT” or “NEEDS UPDATE” while making the appropriate updates.

Q: On the APhA form: what is School ID:

A: Write in the number “7″ — this is NOT your USC ID number

Q: On the APhA form: for the Payment box, what do I check and write?

A: Nothing, please leave this section blank

Q: For the ASHP form, what do I write for “School name” and “School address”?

A: “School name” is USC but “school address” is YOUR address while at school not the universities address.

Q: Why do I have to fill out so many applications?

A: Remember, you are joining 5 national organizations and each parent organization has as specific registration application and process. APSA is the umbrella organization that encompasses all 5 of these organizations. APSA has gone to great lengths to simplify the registration process and to unify the organizations. All you need to do is to fill out the applications and APSA will take care of the rest for you.
