CSHP Seminar 2023
During our fall recess and weekend of October 12-15, 2023, pharmacy students interested in gaining more professional pharmacy experience attended California Society Health-System Pharmacists’ (CSHP) seminar in Long Beach. Here are what some USC students said about CSHP 2022 Seminar and the residency showcase comprised of over 70 residency programs:
“It was very exciting and motivating to talk to current residents and learn about the kind of work they do. It opened my eyes to the diverse options that are available upon completion of pharmacy school.” – Shannon Hang
“This experience will definitely help guide me in choosing what residency program would fit me best.” – Johnny Nguyen
“Attending as a P3 helped me prepare for the residency showcase next year and gave me insight on how I should better plan for next year to take full advantage of the programs available at seminar.” – Merry Ann Sta Maria
“By attending the showcase, it helped me narrow down the programs I wanted to apply to, but at the same time made me consider programs I’ve never considered before.” – Alyssa Lejarde
USC Mann students had the chance to obtain more information about the available post graduate programs and gain networking opportunities with current residents and learn insights into each program on a more meaningful level. Students gained valuable experiences meeting innovative company representatives, informative program directors, and enthusiastic residents. For students who want more opportunities to network with other schools and pharmacists and learn about residencies and the clinical aspect of pharmacy, joining CSHP and attending the next CSHP conference in 2023 is highly encouraged!
APhA Midyear Regional Meeting 2023
Pharmacy students also attended another conference during October 2022 hosted by the American Pharmacists Association (APhA). The Midyear Regional Meeting was held in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Unlike other conferences, this was a student-driven conference designed to help students with leadership development, professional growth, and pharmacy knowledge. Both of APSA First-Year Representatives and our current APhA/CPhA President had the opportunity to attend to represent USC, and here is what they said:
“It was great to see how many students from other schools in region 7 and 8 came out to be involved in advancing their leadership skills and the field of pharmacy.” – Kristin Wong
“I learned so much about pharmacy on the legislative level and about APhA/ASP as an organization. It was extremely motivating to be around such passionate people and to be able to relate what we are learning in school in the larger picture.” – Harrison Cheng
USC also received recognition for several patient care projects and won a regional award for Operation Diabetes and recognized for Operation Heart. “Our patient care projects once again showed the dedication of our school in serving the community and advocating for our profession through action.” – Julieanne Nguyen
